VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE PUTS ACADEMIC LEARNING IN TO PRACTICE

VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE PUTS ACADEMIC LEARNING IN TO PRACTICE
29 March 2016
The reason I wanted to volunteer was to get back to working in the community. I previously worked in supported living and I loved my role so much I wanted to experience that again. I chose Community Campus 87 because it provides so many different types of support services. Volunteering with Community Campus 87 gave me the opportunity to experience the various services on offer to their clients.    It also, enabled me to put my degree in to practice working with and supporting young people.

My time with Community Campus 87.

Community Campus is an organisation that works right across the North East providing services in a number of different areas.  I was lucky enough to get the chance to volunteer with the Middlesbrough branch and work with a fantastic team providing not only supported housing but supported living to a wide range of young people.  I was only able to spend a short time with this fantastic company. However, throughout my 6 months I was made very welcome, not only by staff but the tenants they support too.  Each week I was given small tasks to complete and shadowed support staff. I took part in weekly cooking activities with the young people Community Campus 87 supports and I attended a marvellous Christmas charity lunch within my time volunteering. Overall, I gained a great insight into the workings of the Middlesbrough branch and the tremendous work they do for young people within the community. I would love to be able to return to volunteer again in the near future and experience even more aspects of the services that Community Campus 87 provides.
