Campus Provide Learning Placement

Campus Provide Learning Placement
01 April 2014
Rebecca was a client of Community Campus 4 years ago.  She moved on successfully and has managed numerous tenancies since her time with us.  As Rebecca is now studying towards a degree in Community Studies, she required a placement and contacted Community Campus via Facebook to see if we could help.

Rebecca is now volunteering in our offices in Middlesbrough and Stockton and we are glad to be of assistance to her again.

Being 17 and homeless is undoubtedly scary; with very little family support - it was devastating. When I set out to find accommodation I realised there were very few options available for young people, thankfully I discovered Community Campus in good timing.

Managing a tenancy was a challenge at such a young age but my support worker worked with me to help me manage my own money; making sure I was getting all of the benefits I was entitled to and I was managing my payments. It wasn't all about paying my rent and bills on time though; during my time at Community Campus I learned valuable life skills, from taking responsibility for my education, health and well being to healthy eating, communication and time management.

My support worker was there when no one else was; it's the holistic approach that really makes Campus so special.

I've now managed several tenancies myself and have lived in my current home for 4 years. I have a 3 year old son and I'm studying Youth Work at Middlesbrough College. I start my degree at Sunderland University in Community and Youth Work studies this year.

I honestly believe that if I hadn't found Community Campus when I did, I would not be the person that I am today, and that what I learned during my time there was invaluable. I will carry it with my for the rest of my life.
